Complexion & Other Qigong Affected Areas
Complexion, joints and skin are most affected in beginners of tai chi qigong. Joint cracking can occur within the few lessons, but usually disappear after a few weeks of practice.
Cracking of Joints
As you practice tai chi qigong for the first several times, your joints, especially those of your shoulders and neck, may snap with a loud audible crack every time you move them. These joint cracking occurrences are harmless and usually do not cause any discomfort in the practitioner.
Mineral deposits often build up over time in our joints, causing arthritis and other kinds of joint pain. When the healing chi loosens the deposits, they can cause joint cracking to occur. Over time, as more of these deposits are flushed out of your system, the cracking will gradually disappear.
One of my students suffers from a rare disease in which the bones of her vertebrae were becoming fused together. She was unable to turn her head and her physician predicted that it was just a matter of time when she would become quadriplegic because of her deteriorating condition. Her physiotherapist suggested that she try tai chi qigong as part of her therapy.
She had only been with me for two months when I felt compelled to pass healing chi to her neck. There was an audible crack that startled both of us; however, as she appeared to suffer neither pain nor any injury from it, she continued to practice her tai chi qigong.
The next day, she was astonished to find she could turn her head — her neck bones had become unfused! Both her physician and her physiotherapist were quite surprised by this occurrence and could provide no explanation for this.
I can only conclude that the healing chi had done the job of unfusing the bones, which caused the audible crack that we had heard.
Of course, most people do not experience such dramatic results. But it just goes to show how powerful the effects of qigong practice can be. Audible joint cracking is only one of many common side effects.
Flatulence & Gas
Flatulence and gas are unfortunately, a necessary side effect of qigong practice, especially in beginners. As toxins are flushed out of your system by the chi energy, flatulence and gas can result. Gradually, these symptoms will also disappear.
Skin Color & Tone
- Ruddy Complexion This is very typical of well-practiced veterans of tai chi qigong, indicating good circulation of blood and vital chi that gives color and youthfulness to cheeks and skin.
- Softness of Skin Soft skin is the first indicator of healthy circulation of vital chi energy, particularly among energy healers. Even though they tap energy to transmit to others for healing, they themselves also benefit from the channeling of the healing chi, and their skin becomes unusually soft and silky, their complexion giving off a healthy glow.
